Screensavers have often included aquatic scenes with the typical under the sea vertebrate – that’s fish to you and me. Gently swimming from one side of the screen to the other and in a soothing visual of tranquillity.

Pocket Pond takes this a step further by adding a little interaction and play to the watery world of wonder.

Water Lovely Effect

Pocket Pond HD for the Apple iPad

As hardware becomes more powerful, the flexibility and capability of the software increases hand in hand. As you gently tap or glide your finger over the representation of the still peaceful water, little ripples form – encouraging the user to experiment with various kinds of swipes across the screen. These ripples cause the water to dance around in a serene fluidity, with the glisten and reflections you would expect from it’s real life counterpart, except without the inevitable sight of a dumped shopping trolley and lost brown shoe.

By double tapping on the tablet, you will drop a small item of food. Eventually a member of this watery scene will pass over and scoop up the tasty little treat.

If you are feeling the urge to tease the poor things though, you can push around the water to such a degree that the fish dart for a more calming section of the environment.

No Real Purpose

There is no apparent goal to this app other than to relax your mind and possibly grant you a few moments irritating a few little fishies. Not only is the visual presentation there to attract your attention, but it is the all important interaction that sucks you in to experimenting with the environment on offer and even without scores, leaderboards or an eventual conclusion, everyone who uses Pocket Pond is lost in a world of gentle recreation.
