Sega Superstars Tennis – Blue Hedgehog Courting Our Attentions

sega_superstars_tennis.jpgIf you are a newcomer to my blog, you may not be aware of how much I love SEGA. Alright I might need to clarify that a little…

I have owned many of the SEGA consoles in the past and I consider the Xbox 360 to be a very worthy successor to the Dreamcast (even if it isn’t by SEGA). Unfortunately, some of the SEGA magic has been lost in recent years (Sonic the Hedgehog anyone?), however there have been a few cracking titles as well (Virtua Tennis 3 and SEGA Rally). So what about SEGA Superstars Tennis that is due early next year?

Sumo Digital are developing Sega Superstars Tennis, which fills my heart with glee as they did a tremendous job in porting Virtua Tennis 3 over to the Xbox 360, so we are indeed in safe hands going by past experience. In all probability they would be tinkering with the Virtua Tennis 3 engine to recapture the feel of tennis greatness it achieved, while also providing us with a good selection of recognisable SEGA characters and fantasy courts based on levels we remember and love. You see, I am getting that warm fuzzy feeling already just thinking about it.

How can this game ever turn out to be anything less than addictive? Fingers crossed it will meet my already lofty expectations. Hopefully there will be an event early next year to promote Sega Superstars Tennis and with a bit of luck, I will be invited along to London again to have a snoop.

SEGA Superstars Tennis has over 15 playable SEGA idols including Sonic the Hedgehog, AiAi from Super Monkeyball fame, Ulala of Space Channel 5 and Amigo from Samba De Amigo. In addition to their own unique attributes, each character will also come equipped with their own superstar tennis skills, putting a whole new spin on each match played!

Available on the Sony PlayStation® 3 computer entertainment system, Sony PlayStation 2, the Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, and Nintendo Wii and DS, SEGA Superstars Tennis will release in early 2008.
