Windows 8 and its free update Windows 8.1 certainly upset a lot of traditional Windows fans. Aiming for the tablet world when the iPad was becoming a dominant force to be reckoned with, the Windows team made drastic changes to Windows 7 to adapt to this new world of touchscreen interactivity. In doing so, Microsoft instead alienated a lot of its users with some pretty bizarre design changes that released to the world as Windows 8.
I for one accepted Windows 8 into my life with little resistance and actually liked much of the new ‘desktop’ additions, but even I as a techie could see that there was a growing number of individuals who just couldn’t or indeed wouldn’t adapt to the changes.
Windows 10 will be released by the end of 2015 for free to Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 users (if you upgrade within the first year) and with this new operating system – a much more refined approach to what a modern computer interface should be.
It wasn’t that long ago I was enjoying my immensely powerful 7.1 surround system. Well I could, I lived in a detached house with plenty of room. Now though, I currently live in an apartment which I love, however sharing a block with 5 other people means I have to consider the neighbours and there simply isn’t the room to accommodate 7 speakers and a meaty subwoofer.
So, for the last few months I have been enduring the lacklustre sound of TV speakers. As televisions become thinner and thinner, speakers have less room available and the sound quality inevitably suffers. Soundbars have become an option for those who are looking for a speaker system that takes little room, yet still offers superior sound compared to those tiny built-in speakers found on most HDTVs.
Recently for Mobile Fun, I created a ‘Hands On’ video of the official HTC One M8 Dot View Case. It certainly is quite different from the other thousands of cases available, presenting information in a very unique manner that actually works really well.
As a very happy Pebble Smartwatch owner, I find it fascinating how the market has suddenly exploded with a vast range of fitness bands and powerful smartwatches featuring colour displays and a range of useful apps. Just around the corner, Samsung are set to release a few more of their own to add to the selection available and today I had a look at the Samsung Gear 2 Neo Smartwatch in this ‘hands on’ video for Mobile Fun.
