I am the interviewer who secured this piece and recorded the audio for the 360Zine magazine ‘Major Dash Update Audio Interview‘ article and it appears a number of sites have attached themselves to a news post that appeared on News for Gamers yesterday. Originally this post had a title that suggested that Video Marketplace is coming to Europe in 2007, however this simply wasn’t the case as revealed in my interview with Robin Burrowes, Xbox Live Product Manager for UK and Ireland:
As you can see from this magazine quote, he doesn’t actually confirm anything. Instead he says it is his own personal goal to try and get something for us on Video Marketplace in 2007! Is this actually a major news event? Well not really, we all know that Video Marketplace has to appear in territories other than just the US, as it has been extremely popular over there.
What holds it all back is not Microsoft’s ignorance or forgetfulness, but licensing. Getting content in an online medium that can be distributed while protecting royalties and copyright has to be achieved with the greatest of care. I am all for having the Video Marketplace appear on UK and other European consoles, but if they rush it out it could actually damage the service.
I would like to thank Robin Burrowes for all his time in recording the interview and hopefully many of you will go and download the latest issue of 360Zine for free over at http://www.gamerzines.com and see for yourself.
So to recap, Video Marketplace for Europe is nothing more than a dream at the moment it would appear, but with people like Robin Burrowes fighting in our corner, who knows we might actually see something appear in late 2007, but at this point it is all speculation.

Although taking care of copyright an licensing is important, they should also have in mind that Video Marketplace is expected outside of US, if is not in place in time, people will loose interest and tunr to something else
