WorldCard Mobile Review for iPhone – Business Card Reader

Can you remember the days where businessmen would carry around their precious black leather filofax with a strong firm grip, which contained all their important and hard earned business contacts that was as much a statement as their fine choice in suits? Of course you can and now we are in the digital age of storing information we have a slight problem. Business Cards are still unfortunately as the name suggests just bits of card with business information printed on.

One day I am sure we will only need to carry around a single business card, so any person who wishes to share contact details can scan something that is nothing more than a bar-code or even better a universal application that will transfer your details to other devices regardless of the manufacturer. Until we reach this vision of heaven, we have to rely on our trusty collection of business cards, but I know there must be a better way of adding the information to an iPhone without manually tapping away on a touch screen. Introducing the WorldCard Mobile App.

TuneUp for iTunes Review – Find Missing Music Information and Album Art Easily

When I first started playing around with my very first Apple iPhone, the first thing I noticed was the swish albums viewer in the iPod section. Scrolling along all the album artwork only to find there are many annoying gaps, where iTunes couldn’t locate the covers and it rather takes the shine off the whole effect. For anyone who uses Last.fm will also notice that when you scrobble your played music, the website will often make small corrections to artist names adding correct accents and eventually you admit to yourself the painful thought running through your mind of manually correcting your music library. Nightmare!

Thankfully there is a solution to your woes with TuneUp for use with Apple iTunes. This handy piece of software for the PC, Mac OS X, Tiger and Leopard will not only attempt to find missing music information and album artwork, but also suggest related music you may enjoy including videos from YouTube and if all this isn’t enough to whet your appetite there is even the option of searching for concert dates.

Windows Media Center for Windows 7 – Digital Freeview TV Viewing Excellence

It wasn’t that long ago I applied to be a Microsoft TV Ambassador as part of ‘I Love TV on my PC‘, which is basically an information gathering process Microsoft used to glean thoughts and feedback on Windows Media Center, specifically for watching and recording live TV. They also handed out free digital TV Freeview USB tuners which was a nice touch. Happily I was accepted and received my television viewing equipped piece of hardware not long after confirmation and with the power of Windows Media Center providing the required software, my testing began.

Viewing TV on a computer is certainly not a recent invention, in fact TV cards and even TV viewing add on cards that slotted onto certain graphics cards such as the Matrox Mystique have been around for many years. What really has changed though is that we have digital Freeview in the UK providing a much more pleasurable video quality than the fuzzy analogue signal of the past and rather than an additional internal card requiring you to open your computer as part of the installation process, the far simpler route of using a USB port is now the favourable option.

Desktop Version of Live Anywhere (Xbox Live) for Windows 7 – Microsoft’s Missed Opportunity

When I look back to the highlight of the gaming event calendar that is E3, which is always overflowing with ideas, demonstrations and rumours, one a few years back in 2006 really irritates every bone in my body. Bill Gates stepped up onto the stage and spoke regarding Live Anywhere for Windows Vista and mobile devices and how it would expand the Xbox Live service onto other platforms. This makes complete sense when you consider how many computers with Windows exist and would surely leave online rivals like Sony’s PlayStation Network far behind.

Recently Microsoft announced the Windows Mobile 7 Series for Mobile Phones, taking elements from the new Zune HD and more importantly adding Xbox Live features. Not only can you log in to your Xbox Live account, but you can also view and edit your avatar in full 3D, play multiplayer games, unlock achievements, view messages and invitations and all from this new portable device.
