James Woodcock Unveils Discworld v2.0, Simon the Sorcerer v2.0 and Inherit the Earth v1.0 Soundtracks for ScummVM
James Woodcock, creator of the ScummVM Music Enhancement Project has recently released updated versions of previously available soundtracks reaching version 2.0, which include Simon the Sorcerer and Discworld. Discworld can now be played with the latest SVN versions of ScummVM implementing James Woodcock’s enhanced music. Inherit the Earth, which comes under his ‘Fan Creation Soundtrack’ is a homage to the title and is now also downloadable from his personal website.
Available in High and Low bitrate versions, all three soundtracks are free to download and inspired by the original games and the ScummVM software. "For many years, I have enjoyed the wonders of the ScummVM application allowing me to play many of my all time favourite point and click adventures. The ScummVM Music Enhancement Project gives me the chance to inject a little part of my passion for this gaming genre, while giving the community the option of alternative music". James Woodcock continues… "A big thank you to all who have contacted me via email, Twitter and IRC regarding my work and also of course to the original composers, developers and publishers of the titles I have covered and the ScummVM team, without who this would not have been possible!"
Here is my review for the Xbox 360 version of Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10. There are improvements as ever, but the slow progression forward is a little disappointing for those who play each years installment:
I have reviewed so many Tiger Woods games for the Xbox platform that introductions almost seem unnecessary at this point. I am sure we all know what the series is all about and the slow progression when it comes down to graphical and gameplay advancements, yet they are the best golf games available.
One of the new challengers to the mighty Tiger Woods PGA Tour franchise for the Xbox 360 though ironically comes from the same series, but on a different platform. The Nintendo Wii now sporting the extra sensitive Wii Motion Plus controller, allows the golfing experience to shine like never before. Yes the graphics may feel limited compared to our next generation beasts, but the immersion benefits have turned a few Xbox and PlayStation users heads to the little white box of joy. So what does the high definition version offer for those of us who don’t want a Nintendo Wii?
Recently, the team at ScummVM announced support for the original Discworld point and click adventure including its sequel. Today I am very happy to release version 2.0 of my enhanced soundtrack for you to use with the game, which will give everyone superior sounding music and not just those with powerful MIDI equipment.
A big thank you for the countless emails I have had about this particular release and of course to Terry Pratchett for allowing my enhancements to be released for your enjoyment.
To install, extract the music from the zip file and copy it to your Discworld folder on your hard drive. Simon the Sorcerer is now available on the Apple iPhone Store thanks to iPhSoft. Before release, iPhSoft contacted me asking permission to use my enhanced music for the title to be used on the iPhone version they were working on. So not only can you play Simon the Sorcerer, the classic point and click adventure on the Apple iPhone, but the game also uses my enhanced version of the musical score.
