Windows Defender – Spyware Removal Tool

windowsdefender.jpgSince using Mozilla Firefox instead of Internet Explorer 6, my computer has been far better protected against annoying popup advertisements and spyware, but you can now go that extra step and install for free Microsoft’s own Spyware protection tool:

Windows Defender is a free program that helps protect your computer against pop-ups, slow performance, and security threats caused by spyware and other unwanted software. It features Real-Time Protection, a monitoring system that recommends actions against spyware when it’s detected and minimizes interruptions and helps you stay productive. Now with 2 free support incidents for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003.

Now out of beta status, the program seems very handy for that added protection and more importantly peace of mind. So give it a go and see what you think…

  • Oiy, please don’t tell me you are actually recommending this. If they where unable to build this type of functionality right into IE to help combat spyware (like Mozilla did with FF), what makes you think they got it right this time around with a stand alone program? ;)

Seriously though, I heard it misses a lot of things compared to other free programs out there.

  • I agree it isn’t quite there yet, but at least it is an added bit of detection software that hopefully people will trust in and install whereas they might ignore third party software even if it is free.
