mediacenter.jpgI am an avid Windows PC user. I have never had the desire to use any other variation as I have always been happy with the applications that Windows can provide, however if there is one thing that really annoys me is the need to re-install.

This is the point when everything starts grinding to a halt and even with uninstalling unwanted applications and defragging the hard drives, the slowness remains until you finally just give in and re-install after a format. I do use my PC for a lot of varied applications, but will this always be the case with Windows?

I have Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 because it is as cheap as chips and allows me to stream content to my Xbox 360 console. I do love Windows XP and although some people moan about the Teletubbie looks, I actually like the new slickness it brought and more importantly the stability compared to the horrid Windows Millennium.

The follow on to Windows XP is of course Windows Vista, which has had a few delay announcements, but one thing that will have my interest with this new Operating System is if the same old problems right back to Windows 95 exist with the re-installation needs. As promising as Vista is looking to me, I am gambling that I am going to be disappointed with this problem yet again!

  • You are not alone! But I’m sure you already knew that. I hate it too, but it happens. I used to use my computer so much that I would have to orchestrate said re-install about once a year. It soon became second nature.

Personally, I think it’s all the security updates and driver updates one must do on a regular basis that makes it drag a long after awhile. When you do a fresh installs it gets rid of anything that was left behind by updates, and doesn’t install as many patches because it only needs the latest version of those patches. So, it’s cleaner.
