Celebrations are being held around the world to mark the 250th anniversary of the birth of Mozart – arguably the greatest composer of all time.
A child prodigy, he wrote his first symphonies before turning 10 and his first significant opera at 12. He once wrote down an entire mass by Bach after hearing it performed just once. He was also prolific like few other composers, writing more than 600 musical works before his death at the age of 35. Beethoven and Wagner, two other classical giants, both acknowledged their huge debt to him.
